Our Projects

How We Can All Coexist

Although wombats are native to Australia, the are often referred to as pests by landholders and the farming community due to their burrows. To help ease the conflict between man and wombat, WAO began assisting landholders to establish viable, non lethal management methods. The least invasive the better!Wombats are easy to live with when they […]

Sarcoptic Mange

Sarcoptic mange is a mite that burrows under the skin causing immense irritation. Every single wombat that has mange, will die unless treated. The mite is believed to be introduced to Australia via the European Red Fox however there is no doubt in our minds that wombats succumb to mange only when stressed. We see […]

Drought Relief

The Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat inhabits semi-arid to arid environments almost exclusively in South Australia. They live in some of the driest areas, in the driest state in the driest country in the world. Subsequently, they are sensitive to climate change and any extreme weather patterns. Drought has a catastrophic effect on wombat populations. Overgrazing from […]

We have 47 more wombats this winter than last which means a lot more shelters and water diversions need to be constructed above and around the burrows to keep these babies dry and comfy.

Yesterday, we almost hit our halfway mark and I was excited about getting some holes dug before Clare came down. Clare is a master at building. She is strong and talented whereas my age is creeping up and I try to do everything I can so she doesn't exhaust herself.

I woke up bright, eager and early because the finish line is in sight!

But, Beeper picked up on my energy and decided today would be about her.

We've just spent the last 90 minutes playing on the lounge, I was hopeful she was ready for bed but, she wants love and attention. All works stop and she will flit between helping me clean, basking in the sun and a doing a light spot of burrowing.

Your little rascal loves you!! Thank you for your kindness to these sweethearts- love your videosπŸ’– From Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

I love watching their little personalities as they interact with you ❀️

I love womabts so much that I want to travel from Brazil to Australia just to play with some of those piggy noses <3

What an amazing bond you have with these creatures. It’s so lovely to see them coming back to check on you and for more cuddles and love. I take my hat off to you what an amazing person you are xx

I absolutely LOVE these amazing wombats, I feel I know them purely because you share your lives and learning. Thank you so very much. I live in England now but if I visit Aus again, it will you guys I want to see! 😍✨❀️✨

It's amazing to see how well Beeper is doing!!!!πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°THANK YOU TRUELY FOR ALL YOU DO

I’m sure you are all over it but thought I’d put forward my suggestion just in case. Have you thought of posting on some Travel/Camping/Grey Nomad/House Sitting groups to see if you could get some travellers to help with the construction works?

Such a sweetheart…big love to Beeper🩷

What a lovely video for me to wake up to. You do so much for all these lovely animals ❀️.

It might of delayed your plans a little, but oh what a wonderful way to start the day! πŸ’–

I am a prek teacher in Oklahoma, USA. They hadn’t heard about wombats and I read them Wombat Diary. I showed them a couple of videos of “ the mini-bears”. If we can help in anyway, please let me know. Things we can buy and send, etc. Kathy DeCoursey

We know that money would always be preferable, but is there anything that can be donated to help the building and maintenance?

The Pretty Princess is reminding you the wombat booty scritches are much more important than your honey do list! 😍

Beeper knew you needed some quality wombat time.❀️❀️

Sue has come home for Winter and is enjoying her favourite sweet potato soup and a warm bed ❀️

Sue has been fleeting between the main and special needs sanctuary for the past two year's. She is still on blood thinners for a pulmonary embolism and she has been like clock work coming in each night to have them. But, over the past month, she has been vanishing down one of the big burrows for 4 or 5 nights at a time - giving Clare and I terrible anxiety.

At first, I thought she may be telling me she no longer needs her medicine but her breathing is awful when she finally comes home. Thankfully, she quickly responds but her last hiatus was just that!

Sue is going to spend the cold months cosy and in much smaller, well sheltered burrows in hope of resetting her routine.

I love this girl dearly, she is so brave, gentle and affectionate and has been such a big part of my life for the last decade. She is a medical miracle and just keeps being her darling self. She doesn't have a mean bone. Best thing is, how much she loves to be loved and taken care of ❀️

These little sweethearts are so affectionate.

Every night, some gorgeous little lump comes to visit in our sleep. Sometimes, the stay is a brief cuddle and other times, a solid sleep away from the hustle and bustle of burrow life.

They never seem to forget that we are always and forever here for them.

In a world that can be so crazy, they are forever the calm in life ❀️

Every night, there's a small break from finishing the days jobs and waiting for the wombats to wake up out of their burrows and race inside for dinner.

This is the time I like to get into my cosy pyjamas and sit down. It's this time every night that Beeper miraculously appears! She plays with my slippers and then snuggles up in my lap, bringing me so much comfort. It's truly the perfect end to a very long day and beginning to a busy night😌
